Project descriprion:
The BeECO (Joint actions for environmental protection in Black Sea Basin ) project derives from the shared idea within the project consortium that common education, awareness and river clean-up campaigns to reduce river and marine litter are extremely beneficial for environmental protection in the Black Sea. Public awareness and education regarding river and marine litter problems is identified as a common issue in the Black Sea countries and BeECO project is ambitious to provide opportunities for innovative and unconventional solutions.
General objective:
The main objective of the project is promoting environmental protection in the Black Sea Basin through common education, awareness and river clean-up campaigns to reduce river and marine litter
Specific objectives:
- Increase public awareness and education regarding river and marine litter problems /
- Strengthen community action, promote and organise cross-border Black Sea Basin river clean-up campaigns
- Increase the number of partnerships between NGOs and local/regional authorities to combat river and marine litter in Black Sea Basin
Project activities:
- Project management, coordination and communication
- Jointly awareness and education campaigns
- Measures to identify illegal landfill sites on riverbanks
- Capacity building on environmental protection in the Black Sea Basin
Project results:
- 700 participants at clean-up and awareness activities
- 625 children/students participating at educational campaign
- 200 persons participating at round tables
- 240 persons participating at capacity building sessions
- 25 organisations and educational institutions using the educational tool developed within the project
- 4 patrols for environmental protection
